Dear Sir or Madam:
The Suskie Bassmasters is a
Pennsylvania nonprofit non-stock corporation [IRS 501c3 public charity], whose members are dedicated to
improving public access and use of the Susquehanna River Watershed, promoting
environmental protection and responsible use of the River, its wetlands, and
wildlife resources, enhancement of recreational angling, hunting, and
boating, and other outdoor activities on the River, promoting and supporting
appropriate habitat improvements and educational projects, improving the
Susquehanna River fishery, and will work with public authorities and other
conservation and recreational organizations toward these goals.
I am writing to you as we begin our
fundraising for the 2011 season. This year we will be hosting many events in
addition to our weekly bass tournaments. Some things that are being planned are
smaller bag limits for the tournaments with larger minimum sizes for keeper
fish to lower fish mortality rates, a large clean up event for the river and
more ‘learn to fish’ events for young anglers. We are also planning some free
seminars on how to navigate rivers safely. As Angling Ambassadors, we will be giving away
prizes to our young anglers who participate in our events as we endeavor to not
only inspire and encourage active involvement in responsible angling, but also
plant the seeds for responsible management of our environment, its wetlands,
and wildlife resources.
One such event
that we are involved with is River Fest - an annual event in June - sponsored
by the River Front Parks Committee and the Cultural Counsel of Luzerne County.
This “awareness event” is held to educate the public about the river, angling,
and child safety - and in doing so, brings more people to the river. One of the
events, hosted by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission during the festival
is, “Fishing for Kids”. River Fest and Fishing for Kids [which also teaches
kids to fish] draws almost 10,000 people over the 3-day festival. Through this
event (as well as others) – as Anglers Legacy Ambassadors, we endeavor to
promote responsible angling while educating the public on a conversant
understanding of the sport from a professional and tournament perspective and
by default, actively pursue and encourage the conservation and protection of
our natural resources through responsible angling in order to ensure these
resources for future generations.
Last year we had 143 active
members and we are still growing. We have also paired up with the local
newspaper, [The Times Leader] to cover our events and help with promoting the
river locally. But in order to continue in our goals, we need your help. We are
asking for donations in the form of product, coupons, gift certificates or
anything else we can raffle off or give away as prizes. Without your donations,
we could not sustain our efforts in helping the river.
Items we are seeking include;
weigh in bags, hats, tackle, fishing gloves, line, rods, reels, and any
promotional products such as key chains, pens, coffee mugs, t-shirts, jackets,
patches, decals, etc., that you may have. Our previous year’s sponsors enjoyed
some great advertising from our events and newspaper coverage, and this year
will be even better. Towards that end, we
plan to be traveling all over the regional area, meeting with other anglers to
educate them about the river and gain more support. You may send advertising
material including banners, stickers and handouts [so we can display your name
at all of our events] to the address listed below.
Suskie Bassmasters owns and operates our own
web site, www.Suskiebassmasters.org.
Organizations that donate or sponsor will have their logo and information
posted on the site as well as all event flyers or posters for 2011.
This is great chance to get
involved with a growing charity and help one of our greatest smallmouth
